The only LCMS and Confessional Lutheran Congregation in Madera County

Our faith is grounded in the Holy Scriptures as God's inspired and inerrant Word. Our faith is expressed in the writings of "The Book of Concord." These writings, though published in 1500s, are still valid today, for though times and customs change, and we live in the modern world, truth is unchanging.

We seek to lift high the cross of Jesus Christ. We believe that Christ is the center of our belief and that salvation rests in Him alone. We have sinned against God but Christ was lifted high upon that cross to earn our forgiveness as He suffered in our place. Through faith in Him we have forgiveness of sins, life and salvation.

We believe that the Holy Spirit brings us to faith in Christ Jesus and then keeps us in that faith by His Word and Sacraments. We, therefore, believe that worship is very important and that in the Divine Service God speaks to us through that Word and those Sacraments.

WHAT YOU WILL NOT FIND at Shepherd of the Sierra

Focus on you

High-powered, high-tech full entertainment center that feels more like a theatre than a church

"Fluffy" praise songs, with "I,I,I me, me me" words set to rock or rap music

Prosperity Gospel/False Promises

Prayers glorifying what man has accomplished (see Matthew 6:5-7)

"Look what I have done for God"

A facility to "wow" you—nor flashy things going on when we meet because this church is not interested in performing for ourselves or others
